LOWELL -- Cancer impacts everyone, whether you're a patient or a caregiver.

That struck Eileen Byrne, director of the Brush Gallery and Artists Studios, when her husband was diagnosed with cancer and they sought treatment at Lowell General Hospital.

It inspired Encounters with Cancer, a show at the Brush, 256 Market St., featuring works by over 40 artists who have survived cancer or are caring for someone with cancer. It runs Nov. 3-Dec. 1.

"So many people opened up to me about their cancer experiences and I knew we should use our stories to help others impacted by cancer," said Byrne.

A benefit TeamWalk and the Arts, on Thurs., Nov. 8, 6-8 p.m., aids TeamWalk for Cancer Care at LGH. Refreshments and silent auction. $35 at or call 978-788-7170.

In addition, Lowell Telecommunications Gallery, across the courtyard from the Brush, presents Oncology on Canvas from the Eli Lilly collection and Healing Through Art by Lowell General Hospital's cancer patients and survivors. Free reception for Brush and LTC shows on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2-4 p.m.
