LOWELL -- Donna Miceli Dance Center will bring star power to its students this weekend with its "Broadway Comes to DMDC" program. Funded in part by a grant from the Mass Council of the Arts as distributed by the Lowell Cultural Council, the program will take place Nov. 10-12 and will be highlighted by the presence of Broadway dancer Judine Somerville.
Somerville has had a successful career on Broadway, with roles in Hairspray and On the Town along with appearances with the Radio City Rockettes. She will be sharing her experiences all weekend at DMDC. On Sat., Nov. 10, she will conduct a master class that is open to the public for intermediate, advanced and professional dancers.On Sunday, Nov. 11, she will have a private choreography session with DMDC dancers before she leads the "Bridges in Rhythms" portion of the program on Monday, Nov. 12. "Bridges in Rhythms" will combine DMDC dancers with students from Lowell High School's Dance Ensemble, who will collectively learn an original piece of choreography from Hairspray. The dancers will perform this piece at the Lowell High School dance concert in January and YDC Winterfest at Tewksbury State Hospital in January as well.
