Artist Morgan Miller will perform at the weekly acoustic open-mike night Saturday, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., at Gallery Z, 167 Market St., Lowell.

Attendees will be treated to acoustic coffeehouse entertainment provided by Miller and other musicians, poets and storytellers who are interested in dropping by.

Gallery Z Owner and director Patti DiStefano jointly runs this Acoustic Open Mic Night with assistant manager Leo Jordan and artist-in-residence Hazel Allard.

"At Gallery Z, we invite talented, local and regional performing artists as featured guests for most of our open mike," DiStefano states. "They will perform for 45 minutes to an hour, dependent on how many artists sign up that night."

Formerly known as The Zeitgeist, Gallery Z opened its doors to the public on Nov. 1, 2015. It is a co-op and exhibition gallery giving artists a chance to display and sell their works.

"It was always my intention to integrate the visual and performing arts under one roof," DiStefano states.

Gallery Z's motto is "Come in for the art, linger a while, and enjoy the great coffee." In addition to being a treat for the eyes and the ears, Gallery Z gives its patrons have a chance to treat themselves to some great coffee while listening to good music and analyzing equally great works of art.

"I am currently the chief cook at Gallery Z," DiStefano states. "I owe thanks to my parents and grandparents for passing down to me their knowledge of the culinary arts.

My grandparents owned a bakery in Revere, and my dad was the original owner of ManDee's Pizza in Salem, Mass., featured in the Pizza Hall of Fame."

The breakfast menu at Gallery Z consists of traditional eggs, bagels and the like, while lunch features a wide variety of soups, salads and sandwiches. Beverages include coffee, espresso, beer and wine.

"We keep it simple, fresh and delicious," DiStefano states.

In addition to hosting an open-mike nights every Saturday, upcoming events at Gallery Z include weekly Sunday brunches, which usually draw a big crowd (reserve early for Mother's Day and Father's Day), and dinner theater.

"Our dinner theater has always been a huge success," DiStefano states. "Leo Jordan, owner of Balefire Production, produces six performances per year and they have always sold out."

The dinner theater's next production will be "Crimes of the Heart." Tickets may be purchased at the gallery or online at

Also beginning this season, Gallery Z will begin their concert series as well as paint nights.

DiStefano said art exhibitions change every month, but receptions are always held on the second Saturday of every month, from 4 to 6 p.m.
