SHIRLEY —The Tedesco Duo will play at Shirley Meeting House on Saturday, Aug. 17, starting at 7 p.m.

The Tedesco Duo — Arielle Burke on flute and Catherine O'Kelly on guitar — has been praised for their communicative playing and for performing a repertoire that is colorful and spirited.

The program will feature selections from Phillip Houghton, Roberto Sierra, Gabriel Fauré and Ástor Piazzolla. Admission is $15 at the door, and the performance will be followed by a reception with light refreshments

Learn how to make and use a puppet

LEOMINSTER — Children ages 7-14 are invited to join Sally Cragin and Riverfront Family Theater for "Improviganza! The Art of Puppet Making and Storytelling" on Monday, Aug. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Leominster Public Library, 30 West St.

Participants will learn the art of puppet making and how they can bring their puppets to life by performing fairy tales and original stories.

Kids Tournament of Champions

TOWNSEND —Townsend Recreation hosts Kids Tournament of Champions Week this Monday through Friday, Aug. 12-16, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Spaulding Memorial Gym & Field.

Children ages 6-12 will participate in a variety of games, including street hockey, soccer, football, dodgeball, basketball, Wiffle Ball and more.

In addition to learning the fundamentals, there will be discussions about current events in sports, and kids will learn the importance of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.

It's open to kids from Townsend and all surrounding communities.

The fee is $115 per child.
