MRT NEWS: Robert Cornelius, a pillar of the Chicago theater community for more than three decades, joins the Merrimack Repertory Theatre this summer to direct the MRT Young Company, a professional theater training program for high-schoolers. Cornelius served as arts-education director for 11 years at the Tony Award-winning Victory Gardens Theater, creating a program that combines performance and writing. Today, he serves as a teaching artist there while pursuing his acting career for the first time in years. MRT's Young Company, for teens entering grades 9-12, will run for three weeks, July 15-Aug. 2, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., in downtown Lowell. The all-inclusive rate is $625, with scholarships available. MRT guarantees access to the program for all young people.
ON STAGE AT SEACOAST: The beloved dramedy "Steel Magnolias," about female bonding and dealing with tragedy, continues its run through Saturday, June 1, at Seacoast Repertory Theatre in Portsmouth, N.H.
