LOWELL _ The 26th annual Taste of the Town, sponsored by the Lowell General Hospital Auxiliary, drew 17 restaurants and a packed house of participants to the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center Sunday night.

When the four-hour event concluded, most agreed that the appetizers, entrees and desserts carried the night with dedicated preparation, fanciful presentation and exquisite and savory tastes.

The Peoples' Choice Awards, based on voting from the hundreds of participants who sampled the food offerings, were as follows:

  • Appetizer: Moonstones of Lowell and Chelmsford -- a local butternut squash capellaci with almond "milk" sage and crushed amaretti.
  • Entree: Napa East Wine Lounge & Shop of Nashua -- cherry glzed and braised beef short ribs with bourbon sweet potato mashed, buttered edamame beans and crispy parsnip chips.l
  • Dessert: L'Andana of Burlington -- panna cotta di caramello (Tahitian vanilla bean, almond poraline, salted caramel and lace tuile).
  • Chairman's Award for Best Table Presentation: Gibbet Hill Grill of Groton.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the LGH Auxiliary's $750,000 pledge to the LGH Legacy Fund.
