Lowell Memorial Auditorium and Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell have hosted both up-and-coming (Keith Urban and Brad Paisley immediately come to mind) as well as legendary country music acts (George Jones and Randy Travis, just to name two) over the years.
I can't think of a performer, though, who has played both venues while remaining a viable touring act ... until now.
Martina McBride, who tore the Tsongas Center house down in April 2007, brings her Love Unleashed Tour to Lowell Memorial Auditorium on March 10 at 7:30 p.m. She'll have support from American Idol alum Lauren Alaina as part of the CMT Next Women of Country Tour 2017, so it should be a fun evening.
McBride has won five Country Music Association awards and four Academy of Country Music awards over the past two decades. She has also picked up a whopping 14 Grammy Award nominations in her distinguished career.
She has sold more than 14 million albums in the United States throughout her career, with six of her 13 studio albums going platinum and one going gold. Four of those albums have topped the country album chart while six of her albums have reached the top 10 of the Billboard top 200 album chart across all musical genres.
Though she has made her name in the field of country music, like many artists, she has had crossover success on the pop chart, with seven singles making the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. (She's had five number-one singles on the country-music chart.
Looking at her 2007 setlist and how it compares to one from earlier this year, McBride played some songs at both shows, including "When God-Fearin' Women Get the Blues," "Wild Angels," "My Baby Loves Me," her cover of Kris Kristofferson's "Help Me Make It Through the Night," "Love's the Only House," "This One's For the Girls," "A Broken Wing" and "Independence Day."
Martina McBride brings her "Love Unleashed" tour to the Lowell Memorial Auditorium on Friday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, including VIP packages that feature a meet-and-greet photo session with McBride, are available at www.lowellauditorium.com. Tickets are $48, $58 and $68, with VIP packages at $119 and the meet-and-greet photo session package for $199 each.
