We've been sort of hinting at the fact that Lowell Summer Music Series organizers have been busy lately putting the finishing touches on announcements for the 2018 lineup at Boarding House Park.

Now, with the first of what should be at least three straight weeks of show announcements, we can tell you that Blues Traveler will perform at Boarding House Park on Saturday, Aug. 18, at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets, which are $36 in advance and $136 for premium seating, went on sale Wednesday, Jan. 31, at www.lowellsummermusic.org.

This show is part of the Princeton, N.J.-based band's 30th anniversary tour and marks a return to the Lowell Summer Music Series, Blues Traveler having performed at Boarding House Park as part of the 2009 lineup.

At their live shows, Blues Traveler smartly balances their biggest hits -- "Run-Around" and "Hook" -- with covers of everything from The Charlie Daniels Band ("The Devil Went Down to Georgia") to ZZ Top ("La Grange") to Radiohead ("Creep") in a way that gives their shows an improvisational feel.

The Blues Traveler show is the second show announced thus far for the 2018 lineup, joining the Rhiannon Giddens show on June 15. The Sun has learned that another show will be announced next week and another the following week.

LSMS officials told The Sun this is their busiest time of the year, with organizers working diligently to secure confirmations from artists.

Adding to that logistical difficulty is the fact that some of those artists are playing shows in the area this winter, and many acts who haven't sold out their winter shows like to wait until those shows have taken place before giving the go-ahead to announce their summer shows.

That's a long way of saying stay tuned to this space next week for another announcement. And the weekafter. And beyond!
