Monday night is an underrated night for going out. I've seen plenty of good shows on Monday nights over the years, including Michael McDonald at New Tupelo Music Hall in Derry, N.H., just last month.
Though most venues these days tend to focus on weekend shows, particularly in the summertime, there's something to be said for starting the week off right. It's a great way to keep the weekend vibe going.
Clearly, I'm not the only one who feels this way, as the Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo: A Very Intimate Acoustic Evening show on Monday, April 9, at the New Tupelo Music Hall has already sold out a month ahead of time.
If you are lucky enough to have tickets, or you happen to score a last-minute invite from a friend, here's a quick look at what to expect.
I've seen the husband-and-wife pairing of Benatar and Giraldo a couple of times, including a fun show at Lowell Memorial Auditorium several years ago. They will happily make light of the fact that they like to play the hits.
With that in mind, expect to hear songs like "All Fired Up," "We Live for Love" and "Promises in the Dark," not to mention "We Belong," "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" and "Love is a Battlefield." Oh, and of course "Heartbreaker."
The acoustic setup on this tour gives the underrated Giraldo a chance to stretch his wings a bit. He's always up for the challenge of reworking an arrangement on one of their hits, but in the acoustic setting, he can really let his fingers do the work.
Benatar's voice has held up to the wear-and-tear of a long career in rock music, so when you combine that power with the impressive guitar work of Giraldo, it's a night worth seeing.
