There's an unanticipated opening in the 2018 Lowell Summer Music Series lineup that organizers are looking to fill.

The Peter Wolf & the Midnight Travelers concert, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25, has been canceled due to "a scheduling issue." LSMS officials sent an email Monday afternoon to all Peter Wolf ticket purchasers indicating they would get a full refund by this Friday.

"Due to a scheduling conflict, the Peter Wolf concert on August 25th is cancelled and our ticketing firm will issue refunds for the full value of your purchase this week," reads the email. "You are receiving this as a ticket purchaser for this show. Look for a credit to your credit card this week from Mktix.com by Friday, May 11."

The email includes a contact from the LSMS ticketing company, Meerkat Technology, a Lowell company with offices at Market and Central streets.

"We apologize for this inconvenience and hope you will visit us for another concert this summer," concludes the email.

LSMS organizer Peter Aucella issued a statement Monday morning that reads: "Our offer for a show by Peter Wolf was confirmed for Saturday, Aug. 25 and we were authorized to go on sale on Thursday, April 19. Within a few hours, we were directed by his agent to stop sales as a scheduling issue had arisen. We were subsequently told that the show was being cancelled due to that scheduling issue, so we will issue full refunds this week to all purchasers.
