The third announced show in the 2019 Lowell Summer Music Series lineup features a trio of musicians who have come together to form an Americana supergroup.
I'm With Her -- featuring singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Sara Watkins (formerly of Nickel Creek), Sarah Jarosz and Newton's own Aoife O'Donovan -- come to Boarding House Park on Friday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $37 in advance, $137 for premium seating right in front of the stage, and go on sale Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m., at www.lowellsummermusic.org.
I'm With Her features three musicians who met each other individually, moved on to successful solo careers and then came together a few years ago.
Jarosz was 9 when she met Watkins, who is about a decade older, at a festival. O'Donovan, who is almost the same age as Watkins, began noticing Jarosz when the latter was 15, according to an article in The New York Times last November.
"You were this amazing young person," she said. "You just had so much confidence and skill, but you were never, like, 'Look at me, I'm so good and I'm so young, heh heh heh.' You always seemed like a peer."
The trio began collaborating at the 2014 Telluride Bluegrass Festival, when they were asked to sing together at a workshop. They performed together for the first time at the January 2015 Celtic Connections festival in Scotland, and toured Europe. Later that year, they wrote songs together in Los Angeles and again in a separate writing session at a Vermont farmhouse.
They released singles in 2015 and 2017 before releasing their debut album, "See You Around," on Rounder Records last year. They earned a nomination for Duo/Group of the Year last year in the Americana Music Association Awards.
Watkins is no stranger to the area, having played a solo show at The Bull Run Restaurant in Shirley in 2016.
