When you've been parodied on both "Saturday Night Live" and "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," but you've also marked 50-plus years in the music business, you've done something amazing.
Such is the case with Blue Oyster Cult, who were the focal point of one of the most legendary sketches in the history of Saturday Night Live ("More Cowbell").
The classic rockers were also spoofed in the classic Cameron Crowe movie when a kid asks ticket-scalper Mike Damone "Got any Blue Oyster Cult?," to which Damone says, "No Cult. I ate 24 pairs of Blue Oyster Cult tickets last time around."
If you'd like to score a pair (or more) of Blue Oyster Cult tickets, you're in luck. They are the latest addition to the 2019 Lowell Summer Music Series lineup, playing Friday, Aug.www.lowellsummermusic.org.
Beyond the lampooning and silliness, the band is one of the most respected and successful classic-rock groups around. They've sold more than 24 million records worldwide, including 7 million in the United States, and have remained a vibrant and enduring live act whose biggest hits include "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," "Godzilla" and "Burnin' For You."
The current lineup includes longtime members Buck Dharma on lead guitar and vocals, and Eric Bloom on lead vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards and synthesizer.
The Lowell Summer Music Series folks also announced another show in their frenzy to finish booking. It may be April vacation for students, but there's no such rest for the these folks.
The latest announcement is that Colbie Caillat & Gone West will perform at Boarding House Park on Friday, July 12, at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $49 (premium seats are $149) and go on-sale Wednesday (April 17) at 10 a.m. at www.lowellsummermusic.org.
Caillat is a two-time Grammy winner who has sold more than 25 million singles worldwide. She has placed four songs in the Top 40 of the Billboard pop-singles chart: "Bubbly" (No. 5 in 2007), "Realize" (No. 20 in 2008), "Fallin' For You" (No. 12 in 2009) and "I Do" (No. 23 in 2011).
Gone West is her new Nashville-based band featuring multiplatinum singer/songwriter Jason Reeves, four-time Hawaii Music Award winner Justin Kawika Young, and ACM- and CMT-nominated artist Nelly Joy.
The 2019 lineup is rounding into shape, but there will be another show announced this week and perhaps the last shows announced next week.
