As well as the local sports teams are doing these days, there's no better business right now than the live-music scene.
To wit, there's a never-ending supply of venues that need acts to fill the seats.
That's how you get veteran (I won't use the word "aging"... oops, I just did) rockers who climb aboard tour buses every summer and criss-cross the country to play clubs, amphitheaters and stadiums before thousands of adoring fans.
Yet, one of the joys of the summer concert business is the package tours of acts that fit together, even though you wouldn't put them together at first glance.
There are tons of them out and about this year, but two are coming to Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in the next couple of weeks that stand out.
O.A.R. and American Authors will hit the popular beachfront venue Wednesday, June 5, while '90s rockers Collective Soul and Gin Blossoms come to the New Hampshire coast Saturday, June 8.
O.A.R. sort of slid under the pop-music radar for a long time while building a massive following in college radio before hitting it big with "Shattered (Turn the Car Around)," which cracked the top 40 in 2008. It remains the group's only top 40 single, but they remain a force on the touring scene.
Members of American Authors met while attending Berklee College of Music in 2006 and spent their first few years here before shifting their base to New York City. The group's biggest hit to this point is "Best Day of My Life" (which you've no doubt heard on endless commercials, including one for a popular hotel chain), which reached No. 11 in 2013.
Collective Soul, of course, dominated the mid '90s with a run of pop singles, including "Shine," "December," "The World I Know," "Run" and "Heavy," while Gin Blossoms also had a string of charting hits that included "Hey Jealousy," "Until I Fall Away," "Allison Road," "Til I Hear It From You" and "Follow You Down."
Both shows promise an evening of hits, so don't miss out!
