LOWELL -- Performing in a variety of instrumental and vocal ensembles, UMass Lowell music students and faculty will share their talents during free public, holiday concerts.
The Concert Band will perform in in Durgin Concert Hall on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m. Directed by faculty member Dan Lutz, the 90-piece ensemble performs traditional and modern wind band literature and orchestral transcriptions.
An Opera Workshop will be held at Fisher Recital Hall on Friday, Dec. 7, and Monday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. Directed by faculty member Janice Giampa, workshop members will perform scenes and acts from their opera and American musical theater repertoire.
Both events will be held at South Campus, 35 Wilder St., Lowell.
The UMass Lowell University Choir, Chamber Singers and Freshmen Chorus will present a concert of holiday and seasonal music to benefit the Merrimack Valley Food Bank on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m., at the Pawtucket Congregational Church, 15 Mammoth Road. The concert will include selections from Bach, Victoria, the folk band Fleet Foxes and traditional favorites. The concert is free but the public is encouraged to donate nonperishable food items for distribution at a later date. The Merrimack Valley Food Bank distributes food through 120 emergency feeding programs throughout the Merrimack Valley, North Shore, Worcester area and southern New Hampshire.
